India has around 1000 varieties of mangoes but few varieties are commercially cultivated. Some of the most exported varieties of Indian mangoes are Alphanso, Kesar, Banganapalli, Neelum, Totapuri, Chausa, Dashehari and Langra.

Here are some of the most famous Indian varieties of mangoes-

ALPHONSO

Alphonso known as the king of mangos is most popular variety exported worldwide by Donmind Export Company. These fully ripe mangos skin are golden in color, have creamy and non-fibrous pulp with pleasant aroma. Alphonso is mostly grown in coastal regions of Indian state Maharashtra, Gujarat and available from mid-April to June. Fruit flesh is saffron colour and very delicious can be consumed directly, as smoothie or can be used in making candies and juices.

KESAR

Kesar varieties of mangoes are equally popular as Alphonso and known as ‘the queen of mangoes’. This variety of mango has bright orange colour creamy and non-fibrous pulp. Ripen mango has mesmerizing aroma and delicious in taste. Kesar varieties of mango are majorly grown in Junagarh and Girnar India state of Gujarat. This variety is second most popular worldwide and exported by Donmind Export Company from April to mid-June.

PAIRI

Pairi variety of mangoes are oval in shape, skin reddish tinge color and has noticeable sweetness and sourness in taste altogether. This fruit is juicy, fibreless and scented. This variety is preferred choice to make mango jelly in regional area. Pairi mango has weight between 250-400 gram and available from April to July.

TOTAPURI

Totapuri mangos are huge in size and shape and looks like parrot, pointed at both the end. Because of big size skin is bit thicker, greenish and yellow in color. This variety is grown in southern part of Indian state and available from May to July. Totapuri variety mangoes have distinct taste and aroma, popularly used in making of mango shakes, jam and candy.

NEELUM

Neelam mangoes are famous for their good looking shape, unique taste and sweet aroma. These varieties are grown all over India but best quality of fruit comes from Andhra Pradesh of Indian state. Ripe mango of this variety comes in June and July. These mangoes are comparatively smaller in size and yellowish orange in color.

Banginapalli

Banganapalli named after the village BanganaPalle of Koornul District, Andhra Pradesh it was first grown commercially. This variety looks like Alphonso but significantly larger in size and brighter yellow color. This variety has thin skin, fibreless sweet yellow pulp and produces pleasant aroma once ripe.

LANGRA

LANGRA

Langra mango is famous variety originated in heritage city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This variety retains its skin colour to green even after ripening. Fruit pulp is little fibrous and yellow in colour, with sour and sweet mixed taste. This variety is most popular in northern part of India because of its different taste. Langra mango comes late of mango season and available from July to August.

DASHEHARI

Dasheri is most popular and widely consumed variety of northern India. Fruit is little fibrous, extremely sweet in taste and dense pleasant aroma. Color of skin varies from green to yellow after ripening but pulp is yellow in colour. This variety has medium and slim long size. Dasheri mango are comes in the market from June and July.

RAJAPURI

Rajapuri mangos are largest variety of mango in India. Rajapuri mango taste similar to Kesar and Alphanso variety has fibreless, sweet and soft pulp. Fruit size of Rajapuri mango varies from 500gm to 1kg. Average size of this variety used to be approx. 700gm are said to be sweeter in taste. This variety is most famous for table and cooking multiple cousins. This variety has longest availability in the market from March to July.

HIMSAGAR

Himsagar is grown in West Bengal, of Indian state. This mango is most popular for its fibreless, creamy, musky sweet taste and pleasant aroma. This variety is medium size, green skin colour even after ripening and yellow to orange pulp colour. Size varies from 250gm to 350gm and available in the market from May and June.

CHAUSA

Chausa mango has yellowish golden skin color with succulent and sweet pulp. Chausa mangos are grown in northern part of India and popular for its sweet taste and light aroma. This variety of Mango comes at the end of mango season and available from June to August.
